Have a Beautiful and Happy Easter!

Sunday is my favorite day, and there is no Sunday more beautiful and wonderful than Easter Sunday.  Today has truly been a day to cherish.  My husband, Roger, and I were blessed this afternoon to be able to teach the lesson, "He Is Not Here, for He Is Risen."  I do know and feel in my heart that He has risen as many witnesses testify.

At the beginning of the lesson is a story told by Elder James M. Paramore as follows, "Many years ago . . . a writer for a newspaper was asked an important question, 'What would be the most important news the world could receive?'"  The lesson goes on to ask, "How would you answer this question?"  We asked the boys we teach that question, and all of their answers centered around Jesus Christ.

Elder Paramore continued: "(The writer) thought and thought about the question, he talked to many people, and read all he could in an effort to find an answer for himself. And finally, he printed his answer, 'To know that Jesus Christ lives today would be the most important news the world could receive. In fact, if He lives today, then we too will live eternally as He said'" (in Conference Report, Oct. 1990, 80; or Ensign, Nov. 1990, 64).  I know with all my heart that He lives, and this is truly the most important news the world could receive.

I am very grateful for my Savior.  I hope we will all live and love as He did.  We owe everything to  Him and our Heavenly Father.   The Holy Ghost testifies of this truth.  I am grateful for this knowledge.  I pray for God's blessings to be with all of us.  Happy Easter.

Please Treasure Your Blessed and Beautiful THANKSGIVING!

There isn't a more precious day in the calendar than Thanksgiving.  What a wondrous opportunity to spend an entire day counting and feeling happiness for every blessing!  Let's treasure our day and make our gratitude attitude last forever with much thanksgiving to our Heavenly Father.  Happy Thanksgiving!

Did You Realize That Even Pretending to be Thankful Is Good Therapy?

Having a "gratitude attitude" has been one of my favorite good mood restorers since I was very young.  I used to play music for my children, and one of all of our favorites was about being thankful.

Today I received a newsletter called "Sound Advice" by Eric Maxwell.   To quote Eric, "I'd heard about the feel-good benefits of a gratitude attitude.  Robert A. Emmons, a professor at the University of California, Davis, who pioneered research on the benefits of positive thinking affirmed that even pretending to be thankful raises levels of the chemicals associated with pleasure and contentment:  serotonin and dopamine.  Live as if you feel gratitude, he said, and soon the real thing will come.  I was sold."  This is amazing!  I knew it was important to feel gratitude, but I had no idea that you could fake it in order to make it real!

Farther down in the article Maxwell says, "There is an Islamic saying which goes something like this.  Those who cannot show gratitude to other people can't show gratitude to God.  Every day, I count my blessings and thank God for them, and appreciate the people who bless me with their presence and actions in my life."  As I read this, I find myself thinking about the 10 lepers and how only one of them came back to thank Jesus for being healed.  How sad!  It brings to mind the scripture that says if we do it unto the least, we have done it unto Christ.  It makes sense that we must appreciate our fellow-man and our God.  Don't you agree?

With Thanksgiving just a month away, I believe it's a great time to spread the gratitude attitude!  Eric said he went clear back to Pennsylvania to thank an eighth grade teacher for the difference she made in his life.  They both ending up in tears of joy.

Who can we think of that has made a difference in our lives?  The list is endless.  We can spend hours being grateful for all of our blessings from God.  Then we can spend hours thinking of all the blessings we receive from family, friends, loved ones and associates every day of our lives.

During the next month until Thanksgiving, we can spend our hours with happy grateful thoughts.  I've heard it takes 21 days to make a habit, so we can continue for the next year and the rest of our lives.

According to the article, the joy we feel from having a "gratitude attitude" is real and truly can make a difference in our day!  That sounds great to me!  How about you?

Happy Columbus Day!

Do you remember this, "Columbus sailed the ocean blue in 14 hundred and ninety-two!"  Of course, we all do!  I've been thinking today about my school days when we learned about Columbus.  What a happy event, and look at the results!  We all have much for which to be thankful.  Have a Happy Columbus Day!

Saying Mom's Sayings Can Be Helpful, Fun and a Good Memory!

What do my mom's sayings have to do with real estate?  You'll see when you get to the end.  It's a delightfully good read, in my opinion, anyway.  Have fun!

Recently, my 94-year old Mom passed away.  She was healthy for her age and happy.  We love her and miss her very much as we do my dad who passed away several years ago.   Both of my parents worked very hard in real estate as well as in other fields.  My mom mentioned before she died that she couldn't see why she felt she had to retire so young at 65.  I can understand her question since she was retired for almost 30 years!

One of the things people mention about my mom is that she was so positive and that she was always praising, lifing and building everyone around her.  She had a famous saying for almost everything, and we loved to hear them.  It made her advice to us fun  and lovable.  We decided to come up with a list of her helpful sayings.  I believe our memories will keep spitting them out for years to come.  The following are the ones we remember to date:

"A man convinced against his will is of the same opinion still."

"A place for everything and everything in it's place."

"It's all right to miss me as long as you still have fun."  She'd say that when I'd go to visit a cousin or friend and get homesick.

"Pray as if everything depends on God, and work as if everything depends on you."  That goes right along with the scripture, "Faith without works is dead."

"Ya all be sweet now--ya hear!"  This is from Mom and Dad's mission in Georgia.

If I said, "Better late than never," Mom would say, "Better never late!"

"Waste not want not."

"It's not a sale if you don't need it."

"It goes to waste either way."  That's what Mom would say if we said we were eating something because we didn't want it to go to waste.  She's talking about the garbage can or our stomach getting bigger--a play on words.

"Too soon old and too late smart."  She said this in her later years.

"Only the good die young, and I'm too old to die young anyway."

When she got older, she also talked about "Heaven wouldn't take her, and the devil didn't want her."

One of my favorites in my life is, "Always keep your cup half full--never half empty."  It's the same thing only half full makes you happy, but half empty makes you miserable.

Another that I love is, "75% of the things you worry about never happy; and even if they do, why worry about them twice?"

"80% of what we worry about never happens, and it doesn't help to worry about the rest anyway."

"Patience is a virtue; possess it if you can."  Sometimes she would add, "It's often found in women, but seldom in a man."

"If you will have kids, you must take what comes with them."

"Don't 'should' on yourself."  She would say that when I would say, "I should have done this, or I should have done that."  Hint:  You have to say the word should plainly on this one!

My dad also had a few sayings we're trying to remember.  The list is small so far as follows:

"Couples should learn to like what each other likes."  He would then go on to praise how my mom learned to like fishing because he loved it.

If I ever said I couldn't do something, Dad would say, "Well, then, you'd better learn to; hadn't you?"  He always made me feel that I could do anything I wanted to do just by working on it.

One of his favorite real estate sayings was, "It's either feast or famine, and you better save during the feast for the famine."  Wow!  That one saved me in this last real estate famine!

If you or your parents have any favorite sayings, please send them to Janet at naisbitt@infowest.com or call 435-865-1019 or 800-934-3742.  You can also text or call Janet's mobile at 435-559-7772.  There's a good chance that will help us remember another one of Mom's.  We are trying to compile a list of all of her sayings for the grandchildren and great grandchildren and so on and so forth and forever.

How does all of this apply to real estate?  Read the list again as you think about real estate, success and staying positive in life.  I believe many of them do apply to the subject of real estate.

Cartoon Proves Holding a Grudge is Not Worth It!

This is totally not on the subject of real estate, but I couldn't resist commenting on the cartoon I read in the paper recently.  The rat was getting even with the pig for annoying him by holding a mean grudge.  The pig, on the other hand, could be seen dancing happily carrying a bunch of inflated balloons.   Obviously, the only creature being hurt by the rat's grudge was the rat.  The pig had joyously moved on in a beautiful day.  This cartoon had a message that I believe would benefit all of us to learn!

Back to the subject of real estate:  If there's anything Janet's team at ERA  can do to help with your real estate needs, please give her team a call at ERA Realty Center at 435-865-1019 or email naisbitt@infowest.com.  Janet's website for the MLS and free information is www.homesincedarcity.com.

Happy Fourth Of July! Gratitude is the name of the day!

What a marvelous opportunity we have today to ponder and to be grateful for the many sacrifices that have been made by those who have gone before us.  Many people today are still sacrificing much for us in this great country!

Our freedom is one of our greatest blessings, and it has required much from many in order to preserve!

"Serenity is a state you can achieve on the inside..." (REALTORS too!)

Steve Florio, Mortgage Family, sent me an email yesterday with a quote from Ralph Marston.  Paragraph one caught my attention, and I blogged on Active Rain regarding my thoughts on that paragraph.

I believe Paragraph 2 deserves attention also which states, "Serenity does not require any particular environment or conditions on the outside.  Serenity is a state you can achieve on the inside, whatever else might be going on."  I love those words!  Aren't they beautiful?  I could use some serenity in my life.  There can be total chaos in the world, and we can be okay.

The third paragraph states, "At any time, you can choose to calm your mind.  Clear your thoughts away and for a while, feel the refreshing and renewing peace of simply being."  Is this as easy as it sounds?  I learned in a meditation class that you just think of a beautiful special place that you create in your mind to go to when you need peace and relaxation and go there.

The final paragraph states, "Step back for a little while and feel the calm reality of who you are, of the life you are living.  Enjoy a serene moment, and your eyes will be opened to the positive possibilities that are all around you."  In this day of economic and political strife, we do need to get back to experiencing the joy of the moment.

When I was so worried about the downword turn of the real estate market some years past, my husband said, "We'll just continue to work hard like we always have, and everything will be okay."  I still think of his wise advice today.  We have been blessed with success in spite of the difficulties in the real estate market.

Memorial Day Observance For All Year!

Memorial Day was a day all of us had a chance to reflect on those who have given their all to protect our freedoms.  We honor all those that have served their country and all of those that have gone before and paved the way for us to have a beautiful life and a wonderful, free place to live.  Our respect and admiration for those who have served goes beyond one day to always!

With all of the unrest in the world, I find myself feeling grateful for all those that serve their country in many ways.  I wish for peace worldwide!  I pray for peace worldwide as well as security, happiness, success and love.  I am very grateful for this great country and for the many freedoms and blessings we enjoy.  It's true that "Freedom isn't Free," and we are blessed to live in this beautiful land.

Happy Mother's Day To Everyone!

I wish everyone everywhere a marvelous and happy day as we honor and pay tribute to our own precious Mothers!

Long ago someone asked, "Why honor my mother as I never even knew her?"  The wise answer was, "Because she gave you the marvelous opportunity of life itself."  Please have a beautiful and joyous Mother's Day as well as a life of joy, love and gratitude for all our blessings!
